You still wear that jean jacket with the Iron Maiden back patch for "special occasions."  High hair isn't just a fad to you, it's a way of life.  Acid-wash jeans got a bad rep, and living on a bus isn't all it's cracked up to be - it's more.  And Metallica is the greatest band that ever lived - ever.


Dig those old leather pants out of the closet for SMASHED's first ever “School of Rock Band” tournament!  Teams of four people can register to get on Solly's main stage on May 31st and compete with some of the greatest virtual rock stars in the greater DC metropolitan area.  Of course, we’re talking about the video game “Rock Band”, where your team rocks the house by singing and playing virtual guitars and drums!


It's $50 to register your team of four people (or three, if one of you has the skill to sing and play an instrument at the same time- this is only recommended for experts).  If you'd like to gain VIP access without joining the band, just register for the Band-Aid groupie pass for $10.  You can also pay $10 at the door to watch, but space is limited- this show may SELL OUT in advance!  Don’t take any chances and get your Band-Aid pass below.  All performers and spectators must be over 21 to get in to the show!


Proceeds from this tournament go to CHIME, Community Help in Music Education, an organization located in Mount Pleasant dedicated to keeping music education alive for schoolchildren.


Even if you've only just begun to learn the first few bars to "Smoke on the Water" on your dusty old guitar, you can still win the coveted “Golden God Award”.  Each member of your virtual band can choose their own skill level within the game.  The harder the level, the more points you can earn!  So there’s hope for those of you who haven't perfected your axe-grinding skills.


Being a rock star is all about attitude: the walk, the clothes, the hair.  If you've got the flair for rock, you can win over the judges with your presence on stage to get extra points!  As the late great Lester Bangs once said, "The first mistake of art is to assume that it's serious."



Think you’re the hottest band in town?  Then prove it and try to take home as many of the awards as you can!
